Colfax's Sue Doering 'National Coach of the Year.'

Colfax volleyball coach Sue Doering has been named National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS) coach of the year.

The award is the culmination of a process recognizing the top coaches nationally in 20 sports by the NFHS Coaches Association for 2006-07.

Doering was selected as state coach of the year through the WIAA and went on to be named NFHS sectional coach of the year in volleyball. Winners from there are forwarded to a national advisory committee that has a point system to determine the national winner.

Doering's Bulldogs won State 1A volleyball in 2006, the third of four straight titles. The year before, she coached while undergoing treatment for breast cancer.

She has coached for more than two decades. At Colfax, she has taken teams to the state finals 10 times since 1995, winning seven championships.
