Wind Song Midwifery (WSM) is an ardent advocate of technology-free birthing. We welcome your inquiry into the option of non-hospital focused maternity care. WSM's services include complete and professional prenatal care, birth support, newborn assessment and comprehensive post-partum care. The staff hopes, through our philosophy of INFORMED CHOICE, to educate and provide clients with confidence and knowledge that their bodies are perfectly designed to grow and deliver their baby - BIRTH WORKS!.

KatiAnn, Reanna and Merrilyn believe this is a unique intensely physical and spiritual event. It is a remarkably special experience for each woman and for every birth. WSM staff deliver state of the art, midwifery-focused, maternity care and strive to respect and implement individual choices for birthing. Our midwives and doulas provide the safe expertise of technology free birthing. Midwifery care aspires to return women to confidence in the power of their bodies to birth their children WELL. Wind Song's focus is to provide mother's-to-be with education and care for this experience to be the best of possibilities!

Women are encouraged to see for themselves the problems inherent in modern medicalized OBSTETRICAL care. They are presented with facts which document that what has become the "norm " in a hospital delivery "routine", invariably interferes with the natural unfolding of the birth process. Women are encouraged to view the time of pregnancy as a period of super/health awareness - instead of a time of wariness and worry. Women are educated to understand that the Birth Process is not an unbearably painful experience from which only the miraculous EPIDURAL can rescue them. That, in fact, MOST women are well able to labor without medication. Women discover the amazing truth of birth is that LABOR PAINS ARE USUALLY FAR LESS DIFFICULT TO TOLERATE THAN LADIES HAVE BEEN LED TO BELIEVE - ESPECIALLY WHEN LABOR OCCURS AT HOME. Most women who have well-supported, medication-free births truly experience a joy-filled birth.

THE MAJORITY OF LADIES WHO HAVE HAD BOTH HOSPITAL BIRTH (WITH MEDS) AND NON_HOSPITAL BIRTH - VASTLY PREFER THEIR OUT-OF-HOSPITAL EXPERIENCE.

Our professionals recognize there are some instances in which the best support for a woman's birthing situation does indeed require the care and technology the medical community can so expertly provide. WSM believes these skills (including epidurals) are at times an integral part of assuring the safest birth. We are also well aware that there are situations in which the "pains" of labor are outside of the usual birthing condition and that pharmaceutical medications are a useful adjunct for good supportive maternity care. But, just as few strained backs need to be treated with demerol injections, and everyone with a chest cold DOES NOT get IV antibiotics; so the use of epidurals and other interventions DO NOT NEED TO BE SO FREELY USED. They seem to have become the focus for providing women relief in labor when far less intrusive support would provide equal relief without their varied side effects and increased risk for c-section, breastfeeding problems, spinal headache, forceps delivery with much larger episiotomy etc.

WSM encourages you to explore this site and ask questions. Thank you!
