It was a short meeting, breaking up about 8:15 due to the snowy conditions.

Super Bowl Funfly

Jeff and Tawny Nelson are hosting the annual Super Bowl Funfly on Saturday, January 31 from 9am to dark. Soup, bread, cookies and drinks are provided. Bring a snack to share. Call Jeff or Tawny at 208-798-9162 or e-mail at jtnelson@tds.net if you have questions. Jeff handed out flyers to those attending the meeting and sent information by e-mail about building skis and mounting skis. Dress warmly and HAVE FUN!

Mall Show:

Bertle Spence was unable to make it to the meeting due to the nasty weather, however he reported (through Jeff Nelson) that arrangements have been made with the Palouse Mall management. It was decided to not build a model "on site". There will be a raffle prize, Best of Show in each category (small prizes will be awarded).

Members are encouraged to bring models under construction. It would be great if all the various types of wing construction could be represented (such as built up balsa, foam core).

Other ideas were to display representative building tools, adhesives, and pictures of club events. Flying models built from foam egg cartons or burger trays would be great to get kids involved.

A TV/VCR are needed to show video tapes (where are the tapes?) and a laptop computer is needed for the flight simulator.

The mall show is scheduled for the second weekend in March at the Palouse Mall. Please sign up for one or more time slots to man the display.

Flying Update:

John Sandell has flown four times at the new flying field site. He reported that there was a complaint from a nurse who lives nearby - she works nights and needs her sleep during the day. Obviously, noise control will be a big issue. Maybe we will have to limit flying to electric power and gliders???

A bunch of flyers showed up at John Sawyer's field on Sunday January 11. It was a very nice day - about 40 degrees with no wind and a few clouds. The snow was hard packed, but softened through the afternoon. It's great to have an unobstructed 20 acre runway. The turnout was about like a Thursday evening session during the summer. John Sandel flew his P-51 profile on plastic skis. Dave Hagelganz had a new (his own design) profile funfly he calls the PSYCHO! without skis. Dave says it flies very well. John Sawyer flew his Charger bipe on aluminum skis. Don Hart flew a Hobbico Trainer 60 on homemade ply skis. There were also several spectators.

Indoor R/C Flyin?

Jeff Nelson and many other club members have (or would like to have) electric powered models. Maybe we can arrange to have a flying event in the Kibbie Dome.

Demonstration:

John Sandell brought plans for the Sea Twin flying boat published in the January issue of R/C Modeler magazine. John will cut fuselage components and make the plans available (Kinko's can make copies of the plans) for those interested in building one. John also brought his latest model, a scratch built profile P-51. The P-51 has skis! John made the skis from plastic clip board material (available at Office Depot, Staples, etc.). John volunteered to make skis for anyone who needs them for the Super Bowl Funfly.
