Old Business
Sawyer R/C Flying Field report:
Bruce Bumgarner (Vice President) says the worms still a problem - Nick Wittman says Sevin would be cheap and effective. The club authorized up to $100 for chemicals (Nick says multiple applications may be necessary). The roller needs repairs - it won't run.
Bruce Bumgarner has put a new set of frequency pins at the flying field (in the garage). All the pins go on a frequency board. Check the board for your channel. If it's not in use, put that pin on your radio before turning it on. Return the pin to the frequency board when you're done. If the frequency pin for your channel is NOT on the board, the frequency is in use!
Joe Bolden (Safety Officer) has acquired a fire extinguisher (dry chemical type). It is stored in the garage near the first aid kit.
Safety of LiPoly batteries:
Bob Boettcher (Safety Officer) says that while there is concern about the safety of LiPoly batteries we shouldn't be scaring people. Follow the rules for safe use and charging of LiPoly batteries!
Club Business Cards:
Byron Stevenson brought a new supply of club business cards. The cards have been distributed to area hobby shops.
Spring Picnic:
The club Spring Picnic has been scheduled for Saturday, June 26. There will be open flying as well as "low impact" competition events (Bruce Bumgarner will be contest director). .
Moscow Parks and Recreation:
No new news on the Moscow park flying field according to Dave Walker.
New business
Summer club meetings will be at Sawyer R/C Flying Field beginning with the June meeting.
Officer Patches:
Dave Walker handed out patches identifying current club officers. There was only one "Safety Officer" patch, so Bob Boettcher was declared "Field Marshal".
Club Membership Cards:
Polly Walker made new laminated club membership cards. Dave handed these out to most of the members present - others will be coming as soon as Polly gets the updated membership list.
Fuel Order:
A fuel order was discussed. Wally Bigelow and Ben Troka were identified as resources for getting a good price. A minimum order of 8 cases (32 gallons) is needed to get a break on the hazmat charge.
Ultrasonic Engine Cleaning:
Tom Sandell is offering to clean engines for a low price using a large commercial ultrasonic cleaner. Please disassemble the engine before taking it to Tom.
Model Flying and Construction Videos:
Several (more than eight) videos are available to club members for checkout. Colleen Bumgarner will be sending out a list.
S.A.D (Society of Aircraft Destructors) Stories
Bob Boettcher related how the 20 minute flight of his e-power ducted fan plane ended in a vertical impact. Repairs are in progress.
Demonstrations:
Don Hart
brought his Hobie Hawk, a slope soarer designed and produced in the 1970's by Hobie Alter, famous surf board and Hobie Cat catamaran builder. This is an all composite 100 inch model with a molded fuselage and foam core wing and tail surfaces. The wing has an elliptical plan form with elliptical dihedral and under-cambered airfoil All flying surfaces are covered with 1/64 ply. The Hobie Hawk is a high performance soarer that uses only rudder and elevator control.Joe Bolden brought a very nice Sig Four Star 40 with Super Tigre 45, and the Great Planes Extra 40 (still in the box) that he won in an RCM drawing.
