Flying Field Update

A meeting was scheduled for February 12 at 6pm to see the drawings of the fields by Landscape Architecture Department of University of Idaho. There are two hurtles for the R/C club.

  1. Public approvals at a Public hearing.
  2. Approval by the City Council.

The results of these sessions needs to be presented by Parks and Recreation director Dwight Curtis at the City Council in March along with a budget/funding plan, an education plan for the public and final reconfigured field layouts.

Super Bowl Funfly

There was a big round of thanks-you's for Jeff and Tawny Nelson for many years of hosting the annual Super Bowl Funfly. Execellent soup, bread, cookies and drinks and a a flying video were enjoyed by all. There was even a bit of flying, though the wind blew hard and cold. It was a great social event in any case. Dave Walker presented Jeff with a t-shirt with a tractor logo and "I love my tractor" as a Thank You.

Mall Show:

Bertle Spence will arrange to have the Palouse Mall management provide at least 20 tables (though 24 would be better). Please bring any and all models for the display (any stage of building, an engine display, building tools, adhesives, and pictures of club events - whatever you have).

Dave Walker will be bringing a TV/VCR. Dave has two video tapes, Les will bring two glider videos, Bruce and Colleen have 4 new videos, Wally has 9 videos from Hodgins (some old, some newer) - if you have any model videos please bring them to the mall show (we would like to start a club video library).

It was suggested and arranged to set up two laptop computers for flight simulators: FMS (a free simulator we've had in the past); Nick and Dennis will have the Real Flight simulator.

Members voted to purchase the Cox Lazy Bee ARF (with radio and .049 engine) that Wally/Hodgins Drug offered for the club raffle. It was voted to have only three Best of Show categories to keep things simple. Winners will be decided by votes from the public.

The mall show is scheduled for the second weekend in March at the Palouse Mall. Please sign up for one or more time slots to man the display (the show is busiest on Saturday).

Future Club Events

Dates have not been set for picnics, though a date near the end of June was suggested for the Spring picnic. A Christmas party was suggested, perhaps in November to avoid the busy time in December - details to be worked out later.

Puyallup Model Expo and Spokane Swap Meet

Flyers were available for the Spokane Swap Meet Saturday, March 6 at Spokane Community College. Bruce and Colleen brought pamphlets and catalogs from the Puyallup Model Expo they attended.

Demonstrations:

Bob Boettcher brought an electric ducted fan park flyer. Wally Bigelow brought a Corsair ARF from Hodgins. Bruce Bumgarner brought his new twin motor electric Zagi he purchased at the Puyallup Model Expo.

 Dues Are Due!

Just a reminder that club dues are due. Also, to fly at John Sawyer's field you need to be an active AMA member for insurance coverage. Make sure Colleen has your AMA number - bcbum@aol.com.
