Old Business

Palouse Discovery Science Center

We will had two flight simulators, an R/C model display and foamy airplane construction for kids at the Palouse Science Discovery Center on Saturday February 26 from 10:30 to noon.

Bruce and Colleen Bumgarner, Don Hart, Mike Cook, Ben Troka and Dave Walker represented the club. Ben Troka flew his helicopter in an open area behind the Science Center building and was a great hit. There were about 20 spectators.

Alison Oman of the Palouse Science Discovery Center sent a very nice thank you card expressing their appreciation to the club for our participation.

Field Maintenance

Bruce Bumgarner is the chairman of the field maintenance committee. Contact Bruce to volunteer to help with this very important activity.

Flying Site Update

Latah County Park Board meeting

Dave Walker gave a report on the the Latah County Park Board meeting. They had a discussion of the flying site planned for Philips Farm Park. Dave provided information from AMA about raptors versus R/C planes – there should be no problems as long as flying is not near nesting sites.

No complaints have been received from other park users during or after the flying sessions that we have had there.

Dave suggested that we start flying there. If we observe basic safety and courtesy, there should be no problems. Fly south of the power poles along the north edge of the field to avoid flying over private property.

The park board is particularly interested in youth activities. Send Dave an email with details of flying activities involving flyers under age 18 at the park (e-mail dwalker@uidaho.edu).

Sawyer Field

Thanks to John Sawyer for work on the runway – it is fairly smooth.

Potential Flying Sites

Wally Bigelow, Dave Walker and Joe Bolden checked out a site suggested by Wally, south of Pullman three miles west of Chambers on a gravel road. The site was found to be unsuitable, but another potential location was discovered nearby. Wally will try to locate the owner.

Trevor Young contacted Dave about the old Fountain Flying Service field on the south side of Moscow. There has been R/C flying there in the past, and it may be a good candidate for a club flying site.

Bob Boettcher discussed a possible site on private land on Albion Road. The owner flies R/C models there. The runway is oriented east/west.

Mall Show

Final Planning

Plans were finalized for the mall show, including two boxes for raffle tickets and a box for people’s choice ballots, flight simulators and signup for manning the display. The Lewiston club was invited to participate (they cancelled their mall show this year).

Mall Show Report

Collen Bungarner reported that there were 23 exhibitors. The best of show winner by public vote was Bobby Godwin with 62 votes for his C-130; #2 spot was Nick Wittman with 54 votes for his Cap 580; #3 Bill Robison got 46 votes for his giant scale Waco biplane. Each winner received a set of tools of varied kinds plus a gallon of fuel. Other high votes were Nic Wittman’s AT-6 Texan with 43 votes, and Larry Bobisud’s P-47 with 34 votes. The winner of the raffle was Mike Cook for the Super Decathlon and Larry Bobisud the building supplies.

The treasury balance is $3124.31. The raffle brought in $216.00. The plane and building supplies cost $143.93 and the items for best of show plus tickets and supplies cost $36.22 so a profit of $35.85, so good time held by all. We could have had more planes and more people working and for sure more people in the mall it was very slow.

Club Dues

Club dues are $20 for individuals and $30 for family membership. Please pay dues to Colleen Bungarner soon so you will be included on the official club roster when the club AMA charter is renewed.

Inventory of Club Property

Planes, engines, videos and radio gear need to be accounted for. The lawn mower and storage shed are in known locations. If you have club property, please let Colleen Bumgarner know the description and location.

Fuel Order

Nic Wittman will get additional information on Cooper Fuels as a possible alternate to Byron’s. Wally Bigelow was unable to attend the meeting, but will try to get orders for fuel at the mall show and place the order in early April.

Meeting adjourned.

Demonstration

Joe Bolden demonstrated bulding two styrofoam glider designs for the mall show.

Many thanks to Colleen Bumgarner for her notes of the meeting.
