New Business
Philips Farm County Park
Dave Walker reported that the Latah County Parks Board voted to suspend open model flying at Philips Farm County Park at their October meeting. We can still get permission to fly there as needed. Mowing the runway is a problem that the park board could help with.
Moscow Parks and Recreation
New Moscow Park Status Update
There was some discussion of the failure of the new park on Palouse River Road south of Moscow. The main points of contention voiced by concerned groups were park lighting, the impact on the existing arboretum (across the road), the additional traffic and the large parking area.
S.A.D. Patch Award
Jerry Becker was nominated for a Society of Aircraft Demolishers (S.A.D.) patch for the crash of his GWS Tiger Moth due to wing failure. The wing failure was apparently aggravated by existing canine tooth damage (from Matilda) and over-exuberant flying, resulting in over stressing the airframe and wing structure failure. Members voted this to be a qualifying S.A.D. event.
Palouse Discovery Science Center Event
The second anniversary celebration was scheduled for Saturday November 19 from 10am to 3pm. Members voted to participate. A flight simulator and static displays were planned, with possible live helicopter and fixed-wing flight demonstrations if weather conditions permit.
Mall Show
The 4th weekend in March (March 24, 25 and 26) was identified as the best time for the Mall Show. This would not conflict with Spring Break at either university. Setup would be on Thursday March 23. Bertle Spence will contact the Mall to request this date.
Meeting adjourned.
Demonstrations
Jerry Becker showed his electric powered Banchee, an ARF by Cermark. It is powered by a geared brushless motor turning an APC 18x10 propeller. The battery pack is a 6300 mAh 3S2P LiPoly. The speed controller is a Castle Creations Phoenix 45. Jerry recovered the top of the wing (he didn’t like the graphics) with "True Red" transparent covering (very pretty). The model has larger wheels for ground clearance. All up weight is about four pounds.
Video
The Chip Hyde "Stunt and Pattern Flying" video was shown. Chip gave tips on flying pattern maneuvers including stick positions, and entry and exit throttle settings.
