New Business
Mall Show Planning
Bertle Spence has reserved the second weekend in March (March 11-13) for the mall show. Bertle asked how many tables we would need – we settled on 22 tables for this year. The raffle was discussed. Wally Bigelow suggested changing the price of tickets from $1 each to ten for $5. This strategy worked well at other events he has attended, selling many more tickets and raising more money. We should also advertise aggressively on radio, TV and post fliers on as many bulletin boards as possible.
Two items were suggested for raffle prizes: A Park Zone ARF and a set of modeling tools. The Park Zone ARF is electric powered and very easy to get ready to fly. Wally Bigelow says he can get the Park Zone Piper Cub (including radio) for $99. New (and current) modelers would benefit from an assortment of tools specifically selected for building R/C model planes.
Flight simulator(s) should be available – these have generated lots of interest in R/C flying.
It was moved and seconded to purchase a color TV with integrated VCR. Bruce and Colleen offered to check local businesses for best price and model.
Joe Bolden requested that members collect plastic foam egg cartons for use in making planes for kids. These have been well received by kids in Joe’s modeling classes and should work well at the mall show as well.
Glider Meet Rescheduled
The Orrin Crooks Memorial Glider Meet has been moved from its traditional July date to May 14-15 in Lewiston. This change was to try for cooler weather – July in Lewiston can be uncomfortably HOT!
Meeting adjourned.
Demonstration
Mel Colvin brought a "Handy Sander" sanding pad with strap and a "Can Gun" handle/trigger. The sanding pad from Great Planes uses velcro to hold the sandpaper, making changes quick and easy. The pistol grip handle with trigger greatly improves the use of paint in spray cans.
Many thanks to Colleen Bumgarner for her notes of the meeting.
