Elections for 2006 Club Officers

Report from the nominating committee

The nominating committee (Don Hart (chair), Larry Bobisud and Jerry Becker) has identified possible candidates and will contact them to determine if they will run for club offices.

Vote by email

The December meeting often has a low turnout due to bad weather. Voting by email would allow everyone to make their choice. The current club roster will be used to develop a voter list.

Club Dinner

There was some discussion of a club dinner. The holiday season (November, December) is too busy, so this will be brought up again in the Spring.

Moscow Parks and Recreation

Model Building Class

Joe Bolden is unable to continue the model building class. This is a valuable activity that Joe and several other club members have participated in. Joe would like to find someone to take over from him to continue the class.

Public Flying in the Park

Dave Walker asked if the club is interested in hosting a public flying in the park session in the Spring at Mountain View Park. The event will be scheduled in coordination with Moscow Parks and Recreation.

New Park Status Update

Dave Walker reported that the new park on Palouse River Drive south of Moscow has been put on hold due to resistance from neighbors.

Meeting adjourned.

Demonstrations

Joe Bolden has discovered that fuel tanks with aluminum tubing can be a problem. The tubing is a smaller diameter than the brass tubing usually found in tanks. The plastic fuel tubing can simply slide off. This kept Joe from competing in the last fun fly.

Isaac Pastor-Chermak, one of the students in Joe’s model building class, showed his first R/C plane, a scratch built "Royal Coachman", a 1965 design. He updated the design by adding ailerons and making the nose gear steerable. The construction took a year. The plane has four servos. It is powered by a Norvel .15 engine. Isaac said the covering the airframe was the hardest part of the project.

Mel Colvin showed video of the Deer Lodge, Montana Jet Rally, Al Culver’s full size RV-6 homebuilt plane, and the Scale Masters Qualifier in Nampa, Idaho.

Jerry Becker showed his electric powered model of the WWI SE-5A biplane fighter. This Megatech ARF was originally intended for .40 power. Jerry used an Aviox brushless motor, LiPoly batteries (1500 watts power available) turning an APC 13x6.5 prop at 9600 RPM. He added a pilot, a Lewis machine gun, simulated exhaust and flying wires. The plane came with nice spoked wheels.

Joe Bolden brought his Bridi Four Seasons in **bright** colors. The plane was built ten years ago, but was covered only this year. Joe used Robart hinge-point hinges [John Sawyer suggested dipping the joint of these hinges in melted Vaseline to prevent glue from stiffening the joint].

Don Hart showed his new electric powered plane. The model is now at the "almost ready to fly". The plane is to be powered by a Kyosho "Endoplasma" R/C car motor.
