Old Business

Flying Report

Flying at Sawyer R/C Field has been impacted by hot windy weather and road construction. Only Jerry Becker and Larry Bobisud flew one Sunday.  Harry Evans, John Sawyer and Don Hart flew combat at one of the Thursday evening sessions. Don and John flew Gremlins (flying wing with foam wings  and ABS plastic downspout fuselage), while Harry flew an electric Mini Banchee model fitted with a K&B 20. Harry also had a Gremlin, but it crashed on takeoff early in the "event".

Jerry Becker, Don Hart, Bruce and Colleen Bumgarner, and Larry and Helen Bobisud attended the Northwest Electric Fly In (NEFI) event at an ultrallight field near Cheney, WA on Saturday, August 4. There was a very good turnout of pilots and spectators. Lots of great flying in spite of breezy conditions. The noon flying demonstration included a fantastic 3D aerobatic routine by 19 year old Kyle W, one of the top rated R/C pilots in the world. Dinner on Saturday evening was catered by Long Horn BBQ in Spokane.

Dave Walker crashed his Funtana 40 at the Potlatch mill site.

Jerry Becker invited all interested members to the Tuesday evening helicopter session held at the Potlatch mill site. Fixed wing planes are also welcome. Helis will fly to the north of the runway and fixed wing will fly to the south of the runway.

Safety Benches Update

Jerry Becker will pick up the safety bench on Thursday and deliver it to Bertle Spence and Gary Wright  for enhancements, including an extension on the front for tricycle gear trainers and a pull out shelf for a starter.

There was a lively discussion on flying at the old Potlatch mill site near Potlatch, ID and possible impacts of Potlatch Corporation land use fees and recreation policies. A search for land to lease for another flying site was discussed.

Safety and Clean Up Reminder

Members are reminded to clean up when you fly! Also, announce takeoffs and landings when others are flying. Safety First!

New Business

August Fun Fly

The August Fun Fly was scheduled for Saturday, August 18. Drinks will be provided. Participants can bring chips, dips and munchies. Joe Bolden and Bruce Bumgarner as contest directors for the flying events.

Meeting adjourned.

Thanks to Colleen Bumgarner and Jerry Becker for their meeting notes.

Demonstrations

Jerry Becker showed his  Zero Flatout electric plane from Tower Hobbies.

Bob Boettcher showed a 1968 electric brushed motor. Bob used it to power a Fairchild 24 built from a rubber power kit. The Fairchild flew very will in the Kibby Dome on a small 2 cell nicad pack. Bob says the motor still runs well.
