Flying Reports
Jerry Becker reported
that flying at Sawyer R/C Field has been great with as many as 7 flyers
on one Sunday with flying from 1pm to 9pm. Weather warm, but
shady.
Dave Walker went to the Parma Jet Rally. Twelve pilots
and fifteen planes. A very laid back event. An F-84 was the real crowd
pleaser. The pilot was 16 years old. His dad built the plane - about
$25,000 invested. There was also a King Kat that flew at over 200mph.
Members have also flown at the Lewiston club field.
.
Old Business
Spring
Picnic and Fun Fly
Joe Bolden
was BBQ chef for the event. Burgers and potluck dishes were great as
usual.
Harry Evans served
as contest director for the only two pilots to brave the rainy windy
conditions.
Mike Marsh
(Lewiston) and
John
Sawyer flew. Events were the
tail slide and the
jelly bean carry.
The jelly bean event involved strapping a plastic cup to the plane,
taking off with 10 jelly beans aboard and performing a loop and landing
while loosing the fewest jelly beans. Mike lost two jelly beans; John
lost three.
Flying conditions were marginal at best with lots of turbulence. Mike
landed well short of the runway on at least one flight (no damage to
the plane).
Lewis
Clark Spring Fly In
The Lewis Clark Spring Fly In sponsored by the Lewiston
club was a great success with several IMAC giant scale aerobatic flyers
coming from Coeur d'Alene and from around the northwest region, and a group
of R/C combat flyers from Ontario, Oregon. Several local pilots from
both the Palouse Flyers and Lewiston clubs participated as well.
The IMAC flyers put on some great flying demonstrations of aerobatics
with 40% scale models.
The combat flyers did several R/C combat flights with as many as four
combat planes in the air at one time. There were many crashes and one
mid-air, but no damage was evident - those are very tough planes.
The landing fee included a lunch of hot dogs, baked beans, salads and
cookies.
The raffle included four gallons of fuel, an ARF and two model kits.
There were also various items sold and swapped during the event.
Don Hart
showed pictures of the event.
Flying
Site Investigation
There
was
nothing new to
report on the possibility of establishing a new flying site at the
Moscow transfer station east of Moscow.
Jerry Becker will
send an email encouraging members to take a look at the site.
Joe Bolden has
Google coordinates for those interested in seeing the site from map and
satellite.
Dave Walker
suggested taking a vote at the August meeting on whether to proceed
with a flying site at that location.
Old Mower for
Sale
Larry Bobisud
made a motion that the old mower be sold, seconded by
Dave Walker. Motion
approved.
Dave Walker
will show the mower at his home. For Sale announcements will be posted
on area bulletin boards and the Money Saver. $225 OBO suggested.
New Business
Fall
Fun Fly and BBQ
Saturday, September 13 was set as the date for the Fall Fun
Fly and BBQ. Further planning to be done at the August meeting.
Meeting adjourned.
Thanks to Colleen for her meeting notes.
