Old Business
Flying Reports
Don Kolb
flew Thanksgiving day. It was a very cold day. Don decided to run out a
small amount of fuel. His grip on the plane slipped and he cut his hand
very badly - 24 stiches at Gritman Hospital in Moscow. Lesson
learned!
Dave Walker
flew his CG Falcon on floats off the snow at Mountain View Park in
Moscow.
Mel Colvin attended
an "aviation lunch" in Potlatch followed by a tour of the full size
planes under construction in the area.
Bryce Winterbottom
put the
first flight on his new delta wing plane at Wicks Field on the UI
campus. It flew well once the CG was properly set. It is
constructed of Depron foam.
Election of Officers
Mel Colvin was
appointed as the second safety officer since Bob Boettcher does not
have email.
No more nominations were made. It was moved and seconded that the
nominated club officers be elected by acclimation.

Super Bowl Snow Fly

at noon on Saturday, February 2. with flying optional depending on
weather conditions.
New Business
Mall Show
Bertle Spence
will reserve March 21-23 for the mall show at Palouse Mall in Moscow.
The Lewiston club will be invited.
UI R/C Club
Bryce Winterbottom is working to put together an official
general R/C club at UI. An official UI club will be able to reserve UI
facilities such as rooms, equipment and the Kibbie Dome (for indoor
flying events). Students interested in all types of R/C
vehicles
will be welcome.
Safety and Clean Up Reminder
Members are reminded to clean up when you fly! Also, announce
takeoffs and landings when others are flying. Safety First!
Thank You
There was an official thank you to John and Betty Sawyer
for the continued use of the Sawyer
R/C Field as the club flying site.
Meeting adjourned.
Demonstrations
Bob Boettcher showed
modifications to his electric powered foam glider. Bob used
bamboo skewers to reinforce the forward structure of the fuselage.
Harry Evans showed
the
horizontal stabilizer and elevators for his 1/3 scale 1909 Bleriot
monoplane. Harry also showed plans for a 40 size high wing sport plane
and for a "sexy" 40 size low wing sport plane.
Don Kolb showed
pictures of his "Chinese" Cub. It is powered by an Evolution 60.
Jerry Becker
showed his
E-Flite
Eratix 30.
It is powered by an E-Flite 32 outrunner motor generating about 600
watts - can go to 800 watts on a 4 cell LiPo if needed. The plane
weighs about 3.5 pounds ready to fly. Jerry says it's a great design,
taking about 5 hours to get ready for flight. It is covered with
UltraCoat.
Jerry Becker showed
a
"how-to" video on cuttting a complex trim design from Monokote and
using Press-and-Seal plastic wrap and Windex to apply the Monokote to a
plane. The trim design is printed on paper and taped over Monokote
(without backing) smoothed (adhesive side down) on a piece of glass.
The Press-and-Seal is pressed down carefully on the cut
Monokote
design and is then used to pick up the trim piece(s). The trim location
on the model is sprayed lightly with Windex. The
Press-and-Seal
with the trim is carefully pressed down on the model. The
hard
part is letting the trim "age" over night. The Press-and-Seal
is
gently heated with a heat gun and carefully removed, leaving the trim
on the model. Trim solvent or a covering iron can be used
around
the edges to ensure that the trim will stay put.
