AMA Park
Pilot Program
A new AMA membership option is the
Park
Pilot program
.
Membership costs $29.95 per year and provides $500,000
liability insurance.
Park Flyer Definition:
Park
Flyer models
will weigh two pounds or less and be incapable of reaching speeds
greater than 60 mph. They must be electric or rubber powered, or of any
similar quiet means of propulsion. Models should
be remotely
controlled or flown with a control line, remain within the
pilot’s line
of sight at all times, and always be flown safely by the
operator.
A
Park
Flyer site can be either an outdoor or an indoor venue. When flying at
sites specifically designed for Park Flyers, the pilot will keep the
model within the established flight boundaries of the field. Members
need to take into consideration several factors including piloting
ability, weight, size, and speed of the Park Flyer model to determine
if a Park Flyer site is an appropriate venue for flying a particular
model. The test should be, “Can I fly this model safely and
quietly at
this flying site?” [ from the AMA web site]
US
Scale Team Raffle

US
Scale Team. Tickets $5 or 3 for $10. Drawing

the May 31 drawing.
Windsock Information
Jerry passed around a pamphlet with information about wind
socks available from the Airport Windsock Corporation.
Club
Officer Patches
Jerry passed out club officer patches to the officers present. If you
are a club officer and didn't receive yours, contact Jerry.
Flying Field Status
John Sawyer
reports that the
Sawyer
R/C Field is ready! Come on out and enjoy it.
Lewiston Fly In
Note: The date for the Lewiston Fly In has been changed to
June 21.
This is to allow for repaving the runway - work is expected
to be completed in mid-May.
Flying Reports
Don Kolb described
the flight of the new "Butterfly". A loop resulted in a folded wing and
a "bruised" fuselage. It should be flying again soon.
Harry Evans
has designed a new profile model. Laser cut parts have been ordered.
Don Hart
flew his new WoJo profile at the Lewiston club field. The maiden flight
went
very well.
Old Business
Mall
Show
A motion was made to donate the proceeds from the PRRCF Mall
Show to
Wally Bigelow
to help cover medical expenses - seconded and
passed. He was being treated
for cancer.
Thanks to
Jerry Becker
for donating the helicopter for the PRRCF Mall
Show raffle.
A suggestion was made to post signs at the mall entrances advertising
the event. Also a
banner
should be displayed high enough above the display to be seen
from a distance.
Magnum Fuel
Order
The idea of ordering a 55 gallon drum of fuel from Magnum Fuels was
discussed. All 55 gallons must be sold if this is to proceed. A final
decision will wait until the Lewiston club is contacted.
Lawn
Mower
Mel Colvin
says the mower he is offering to the club will cost $375
plus parts (such as a mower blade). This was tabled due to the massive
amount of snow at Mel's home.
New Business
Spring
Picnic and Fun Fly
The
PRRCF Spring Picnic
and Fun Fly is scheduled for Saturday
June 7 beginning at
noon.
Harry Evans
will be the contest director;
Jerry
Becker will assist. This is a potluck event
with burgers and soft drinks provided by the club.
Meeting adjourned.
Thanks to Colleen for her meeting notes.
Demonstrations
Joe Bolden showed
his
Hanger 9 Extra 300S
ARF, a prize he won after ordering a plan from RCM
magazine. Joe was not impressed with the ARF - nothing fit. It is
powered by an OS46FX. The pilot figure is a Jack-in-the-Box antenna ball.
Harry Evans
showed an amplifier for 72MHz he built for an R/C plane that will be
dropped from a balloon flying at 90 thousand feet. This is a project of
a Moscow High School student organization. Harry designed the circuit,
etched the board and assembled the components. Harry also showed a
small model of the
Bleriot
XI for .20 power. It hasn't flown yet.
Randy Sexton
showed his
Multiplex
Cularis ARF
electric motor glider. Randy was very impressed with the model.
Everything fit perfectly. There a carbon fiber spars in the wings, four
wing servos. The model is molded foam, but is assembled with regular
thick CA (not foam-safe). Wings and horizontal stabilizer are removable
and have retaining locks built in.
Don Hart
showed his latest model, a 48 inch high speed model since
named the
Tabanus
(latin for horsefly - fastest recorded insect at 90mph). At this stage
the model was all yellow with black undersides for visibility. Stripes
will be applied before the maiden flight. It is powered with a TT46Pro
turning an APC 9x7 prop. Speeds are expected to be in the 130-140mph
range.
