Announcements

Dues are due!

The Orrin Crooks Memorial glider meet is scheduled for May 8, 9 and 10 at the Mann Lake flying field.  This was a repeat announcement, but Jerry wanted clarification of the club's participation in this event.  We are the "official" hosts of the event for the record, but the Inland Empire Soaring Society takes care of all arrangements and fees.  Bruce Bumgarner is the CD this year.  When asked if there was something that the club should do to support this event, Bruce replied. "Come on down and be a part of it, even if it's just to watch." Les Grammer is CD'ing a glider meet in June.  (208) 8827126

LRCR is sponsoring the "Idaho Spuds" IMAC meet at Mann Lake Field.  Registration fee for the event is expected to be $35. N.W. IMAC is holding a judging seminar in Spokane March 28. There will be an IMAC flight demonstration and flying clinic May 24 at the Mann Lake flying field.

JoeBolden announced that Lone Star Balsa is back in business.

Flying and Building Reports

Mel Colvin reports that the Aircamper is approaching completion, he has the wings covered and it could be done in time for the Mall Show.

Mark Scarborough has a new Control Line aircraft framed up called the Avenger.

Joe Bolden has completed the Venus for our mall show raffle.

Old Business

Super Bowl Snow Fly Report
Scarborough
We had a good turnout.  More than 20 people showed up.  The food was great (as always) and plentiful.  Many thanks to our chef, Joe, and to all who brought dishes.

Mother nature was in a rather pouty mood that day and presented us with winds of 15-20 mph, so no outdoor flying occurred.  Fortunately the indoor flying (both BS and aircraft) was very entertaining.

Several members brought Blade MCX helicopters and it wasn't long before we had John's shop buzzing with the little flying contraptions.  Early in the proceedings Jerry handed Don the controls of his MCX, and Don soon discovered that he could force Harry's heli down with his rotor wash by flying over the top of him.  A delightful and hilarious melee ensued that ended with one of the helis doing a "flopping fish dance" on the floor of John's shop.  (Fortunately the little Helis are very durable and no damage was done.)

Jerry joined the fray with his Vapor indoor flyer, making passes at Harry's heli, but soon realized that the whirring chopper blades would cut his fragile craft to ribbons should they meet.  He contented himself with doing circles, figure 8's, and harriers, with a momentary hover thrown in for good measure.

At one point Harry displayed remarkable finesse and control by landing his Blade MCX on the lid of a jar that was just barely large enough to hold the heli.

Mike Marsh, an LCRCF member and new PRRCF member, brought a nitro powered RC car.  When he fired it up Matty thought that it might be fun to chase it.  However... when the car turned around and chased her, she decided that it was not so much fun after all, and fled the vicinity ignominiously.

A good time was had by all (except maybe Matty the dog).

Club Mall Show

The Mall Show is set for the 26, 27, 28, and 29th of March.  There was some question about whether the 29th had been reserved.  Joe is pretty sure that he reserved the 29th, but will double check to make sure.  He will also ask about the availability of a ladder and hooks to hang signs.

Setup is on the evening of Thursday the 26th, and teardown will commence early afternoon on Sunday the 29th.  Tickets will be $1.00 each, or 10 for $5.00.  Club members will receive 12 tickets for $5.00.  The raffle prizes will be a Great Planes Venus .40 and an E-Flight Blade MCX.

There was some discussion about the lack of participation in previous years.  This has lead to inadequate coverage and in some case people have had to stay beyond their scheduled shift in order to provide coverage for others who did not show up.

In order to provide some incentive for members to volunteer, it was decided that we would give free raffle tickets for shift hours.  Two free tickets for every hour of participation.  Jerry will make a sign-up sheet and we will assign time slots at the March meeting.

Club Bylaws Review and Discussion

The bulk of the meeting was devoted to updating our Club bylaws.  There was spirited discussion about the various articles, and several minor changes were made.  Since we were running out of time, it was agreed that we would call a halt and table the rest of the discussion until our next meeting.

Changes agreed upon up to Article IV were put to a vote and passed.  We will take up the discussion beginning with Article IV at our March meeting.

New Business

Meeting adjourned.

Thanks to Jerry Becker for his meeting notes.

Demonstrations

Mark Scarborough showed the bones of his new Avenger.  Lots of ribs in the wing!

Joe Bolden showed the completed and now wrinkle-free Venus.  It looks very good.  Thanks Joe!

Jerry brought the E-Flight Blade MCX raffle prize.
