Nisqually John Landing Float Fly
The Lewiston club is putting on a float fly Saturday May 16 at Nisqually John Landing on the Snake River down stream from Lewiston. Mike Marsh is the contact.
Orrin Crooks Memorial Glider Meet
Bruce Bumgarner is CD for the annual Orrin Crooks glider meet to be held May 9-10 at the Mann Lake field in Lewiston.
Farragut Glider Meet
The Inland Soaring Society is holding a glider meet Memorial Day weekend at Farragut State Park near Athol, ID.
Randy Sexton flew his new Graupner Taxi 2400 glider tow. He reports that it is a delight to fly. The Taxi has a 94-1/4" wingspan, is 68" long, has 1628 sq. in. wing area, and an 18 pound flying weight. Power is a 40cc gasoline engine.
Jerry Becker, Randy Sexton and John Sawyer flew at Sawyer field, though it was breezy.
Don Hart crashed his Mojo profile at Mann Lake field when the throttle linkage disconnected after landing. The Mojo went to full throttle and crashed into a barrier fence (fortunately), ripping off one wing and damaging the rear of the fuselage.
Mark Scarborough has been flying control line. His first competition for the season is in Portland at the Jim Walker Field in Delta Park. Jim Walker was the inventor of control line flying and a great showman. Bob Boettcher related that he had seen Jim Walker fly R/C in 1937. The plane and the vacuum tube radio set were HUGE. It was a single channel system.
Dave Walker came back from Arizona in late March after flying in warm weather all winter. He's flown twice at Mountain View Park in Moscow, both times on snow and slushy water. Fortunately, he had floats mounted on his plane and Dave really likes float flying.
Club Mall Show Report
Winners of the raffle were Dana Gutshall who won the Venus and Bruce Bumgarner who won the helicopter. Best of Show winners were the Cessna 182 (Don Kolb) and the Spitfire (Jerry Becker). The raffle brought in $345 for a net of $182 after expenses.
The mall walkers were very impressed with the display and thanked us for showing the models.
Trophies for IMAC
Randy Sexton made a motion that the club sponsor 3 trophies for one competition class at the "Idaho Spuds" IMAC meet in Lewiston. Cost not to exceed $50. Motion seconded and passed.
The DVD Warbirds over Delaware was shown.
