Flying/Building Reports

Club Midsummer Picnic and Fly In - July 18. There were about 40 attending including 11 pilots. Mark Scarborough put on a control line pattern flying demo - very cool! Pilots got a playing card for each flight with bonus cards for breaking balloons (one for a tethered balloon and 2 for a free flying balloon). Ben Troka broke a balloon with his helicopter. There were about 50 flights (a second deck of cards had to be opened). Don Hart won the Ember RTF prize. Lots of flying and lots of fun! As usual there was good food (burgers, brats and pot luck dishes). Thanks to burger and brat chefs Dave Walker and Mel Colvin.

Mark Scarborough competed in his second pylon race. His times started at 2:25 on Saturday. His best time was 2:02 on Sunday. A racer needs about a 1:45 time to win a heat.

Don Kolb flew his new Aeroworks Extra 260 at the St John airport. Don changed to a different radio after a range check identified problems at the club picnic. Don reports that it is a GREAT flying plane.

Dave Walker did 70 tough-and-goes at the Potlatch field. He put up a "Don't Park on the Runway" sign to discourage hay storage on the runway.

Old Business

Potlatch Field

The runway still needs work. Another work-party/flying-session was planned.

Buddy Box in the Park

The buddy box session in Mountain View Park in Moscow is scheduled for Saturday September 19. Jerry Becker will finalize arrangements with Moscow Parks and Recreation and report at the September meeting.

New Business

Fall Picnic and Fly In

The fall picnic was scheduled for Saturday September 12.  Jerry Becker will get a prize. Details will be finalized at the September meeting.

Program

Jerry Becker showed his new Frenzy. The flying weight is 7.5 pounds with a 3300mah seven cell LiPoly battery pack.

Don Hart showed his upgraded Slow Stik with a built-up wing and balsa tail. It has an eFlight 400 outrunner. It can fly with up to a 2100mah three cell LiPoly battery pack.

Don Kolb
showed his Aeroworks Extra 260. I has a 60 inch span with a two piece plug-in wing. It's powered with a Saito 91 four stroke. Don reported that it flies very well.

Dave Walker showed pictures a few of the many planes at the Pima Air and Space Museum at Davis-Moffett AFB in Arizona. He visited the museum with old friend (and former Palouse Flyers club member) Al Culver.
