Announcements

The Orrin Crooks Memorial Glider Meet is scheduled for May 8-9 at the Lewiston flying field. This event is sponsored by the Palouse Flyers club. Bruce Bumgarner is the contest director.

Flying/Building Reports

Sam Sorem and Don Hart flew scale aerobatic planes at the Lewiston field. They are getting ready for the Lewiston IMAC in June.

Dave Walker has returned from a winter of flying in Arizona.

Larry Bobisud was out flying five times in February and March - a mild winter for sure.

Carson Sass flew his Hobby Zone Super Cub. It hit a tree, but with only minor damage.

Don Hart is continuing to work on the Byron "Pipe Dream". Wings and the horizontal stabalizer have been covered with Econokote low temperature covering. These parts are injection molded foam.

Mark Scarborough and Rob Smith flew at the Lewiston Field. Rob flew the Funtana 125 to get some flying photos for a review article. Mark reported that the Park Zone Corsair and Mustang flew well.

Mark Scarborough will be attending a control line stunt contest in Portland.

Sam Sorem reported that his RC modeling presentation to the Kiwanis club was a rousing success. He showed a Power Point presentation, a 3D flying video and one of his giant scale models. There were many positive commments. They especially liked the 3D video.

Old Business

Flying Field Report

John Sawyer reported that Sawyer Field has had the worm deterrent and fertilizer applied. The old Potlatch mill site runway repairs look good.

Tax ID Update

This topic was tabled until the next meeting.

Reciprical Agreement

Mark Scarborough reported that there was no information on the reciprical agreement to allow members of the Lewiston club and members of the Palouse Flyers to fly at each others flying fields.

New Business

Spring BBQ and Fly In

The spring BBQ and fly in will be held on Saturday, June 19. Dave Walker agreed to be the burger/brats chef. Flyers can participate in  "Lucky Hand Poker" (a pilot earns one paying card for each flight - the best 5 card poker hand wins) for a chance to win a prize. Mark Scarborough will contact B&B Hobbies in Spokane for a good deal on a prize.

Moscow Parks and Rec RC Class

This topic was tabled until the next meeting.

Program

Don Hart showed his Micro-Telemaster. This is an electric powered version of the Telemaster with an E-Flite 370 outrunner and a two cell 1320 mA Lipoly battery pack. Mike Marsh built the plane using kit parts as templates. Don covered the plane with Monokote and installed the power and RC components.

Micro-Telemaster

Sam Sorem showed the VERY impressive giant scale Corsair he took to the Kiwanis presentation. Sam built the Corsair from the Top Flite giant scale kit - wing span is 86.5 inches. Sam says the plane is about 95% ready. It has 13 servos to operate a retracting tail wheel, main gear retracts, sliding canopy, flaps, ailerons, and landing gear doors. The compressed air operated Robart retracts use a sequencer to control the speed and sequence of landing gear and doors. Sam scratch built the retracting tail wheel strut using information in an online forum. Sam made 13 more tail wheel strut kits from PC board and brass tubing. These were sold on the forum.  The Zenoah G62 powered Corsair will weight about 30 pounds. All switches are under scale hatches. The model is covered with fiber glass and painted with auto paint and War Bird colors. Markings are painted! Sam is planning to fly the Corsair in June.
