Austin Sass created an FPV canopy for his E-flight T-34 Mentor. It attaches in place of the original canopy and contains a small onboard video camera.
Parker Sorem has been flying a 500 size heli with some help from Jessie Salmonson.
Gunnar Sorem has a new Park Zone Extra 300, and Jerry Becker has been flying a Park zone Habu. Both are reputed to be fine flyers, and Jerry liked the way his Habu flew so much that he added the E-Flight Servo-less retracts.
Mark Scarborough reported that he finished 4th in 4 control line events.
Bob Boetcher
is starting to build a Multiplex E-Z Glider. He had some questions
about the build, and was given some advice by the club members as to
cell-count and type of adhesive to use.
RC Class Report
Jerry Becker reported that we are in the Parks & Rec catalog and flyer for a Spring RC Class, running during the month of May. We were able to get the planes for $175.00, and the Parks & Rec fee was negotiated down from $65.00 to $25.00. This means that we are able to offer the class for $200.00. The hope is that the lower cost, and the addition of some text to the brochure making it clear that EVERYTHING is included in the price of the class will be more attractive to potential students.
Fall BBQ Report:
The Fall BBQ/Fun-Fly was an unqualified success! We had somewhere in the neighborhood of 20 people attend, and there was LOTS of flying and lots of balloon busting! Flying continued well into the evening and finally ended about dusk.
Austin Sass won the Fun-Hand Poker hand with a full house, and claimed the prize of a Park Zone T-28 Trojan, which is kind of funny since he used a Park Zone Trojan to win the event. He was also the only one to catch and break a baloon that was flying free after cutting the streamer on an earlier pass.
Jerry Becker crashed his Mutiplex Twister Jet when his high speed passes at the balloon ended up with about 40 feet of streamer hanging off of the wing of his jet. The streamer slid down the wing and blanketed the left aileron, and without a rudder the jet was uncontrollable and quickly went in.
The crowd was treated to a fine display of helicopter flying and tricks by new member Jessie Salmonson who has only been flying helis for a few months, but has become very proficient.
The food was awesome as usual, and the club extends it's tummy-felt thanks to our chefs; Dave Walker and Joe Bolden. Well done!
Election of Club Officers:
Mark Scarborough was nominated to continue as president, John Sawyer was nominated to continue as Vice-President and Safety Officer, Colleen Bumgarner was nominated to continue as Secretary/Treasurer, and Don Hart was nominated to continue as Newsletter Editor. Jerry Becker asked if we didn't need another safety officer to be in compiance with AMA rules, and for his pains was promptly nominated for said position. No good deed goes unpunished!
Bob Boetcher showed his Multiplex E-Z Glider, and the Sass boys showed a video shot from the FPV mounted on the Mentor - Good Stuff!
