Flying/Building Reports

Phil Tallman has been flying at Leroy Johnson's field south of Pulllman and attended  a big bird event in Deer Park, WA.

Don Hart crashed his Micro-Telemaster balloon busting - too light to break the crepe paper streamer attached to the balloon.

Don Hart reported on the June 29 remote sensing mission at a columnar basalt formation on US 12 just west of Clarkston. Two flights were flown by Don Hart and Mike Marsh using a Hobbico NexStar trainer provided by NASA Goddard Flight Center in Maryland. The mission was to support a NASA sponsored field trip for students in a course for future planetary scientists.

The NexStar was fitted with an instrument module under the fuselage.  The instrument module had three cameras looking straight down; visible, near infrared and thermal infrared and two video transmitters.  The video was monitored and recorded on a ground station. A hexacopter with a similar instrument module was flown by a pilot from Quadrocopter, a company in Montana.

Mark Scarborough flew the maiden on his Aspire electric powered RC pattern plane.

Dave Walker and Joe Bolden have been flying at Mountain View Park in Moscow.

Old Business

Spring BBQ Report

The spring BBQ was lightly attended, but everyone had a good time.  The weather was wet and windy.  Phil Tallman and Jerry Becker flew outdoors while standing out of the wind and rain in Sawyer's garage.  Small helicopters were flown in the shop.

Potlatch Field

Dave Walker reported that the city of Potlatch is planning to annex the old mill site.  Dave hopes that the RC flying demonstration during Potaltch Days will help to include a RC flying site in development plans.

New Business

No new business

Program

Mark Scarborough showed his building tools. He will show them again at the next meeting.

Don Hart showed a movie he put together from video and still pictures taken during the NASA remote sensing mission near Clarkston. The movie will be shown again at the next meeting.
