Phil Tallman has been flying at Leroy Johnson's field on Chambers Rd south of Pullman. Phil is learning takeoffs with a 1/4 scale Cub. Phil also has a profile Pitts biplane and a Sea Wind that he flies off both water and grass.
Elmer Carlson has been flying the Tower Trainer he built from a donated kit at Sawyer Field.
Colleen Bumgarner reported that there were 19 glider pilots at the Farragut Labor Day Weekend glider meet. It was windy both days. Pilots came from as far away as Portland. One glider may still be perched in a poplar tree near the runway.
Jeremy Schroeder, a new member, has been flying a .40 size trainer at a grass field in southern Idaho. He is now a student at U of I.
Dave Walker and Jerry Becker flew at the Potlatch mill site. It was windy with thermals.
Don Hart reported that the Lewiston club float fly was a success. There was a good turnout of pilots and interesting planes. The water level in the Snake river was much higher than usual, so the beach area was small.. Bill Robinson brought the fuselage his giant scale PBM sea plane to show. The PBM should be ready for the float fly next year.
Fall BBQ Planning
Dave Walker agreed to be chef and to get the burgers, brats, buns and condiments. Bruce and Colleen Bumgarner agreed to get pop and ice.
Development of the Old Potlatch Mill Site
Dave Walker reported that the city of Potlatch is planning to annex the old Potlatch mill site. This would put the center of Potlatch at about the old train station. Development plans include residential housing, retail and recreation. Dave Walker and Joe Bolden will pursue including RC aviation as one of the recreation options in the development plan. Dave said that this may require that the club put up money for RC field development.
No new business.
Elmer Clarson showed his Miss-E built from plans from Model Aviation magazine.
Phil Tallman showed a large electric powered Pitts biplane profile from Hacker with a foam fuselage and built up balsa wings. Phil says it flies very well. Pill also showed his Sea Wind ARF. It can be flown from water or grass. The canopy came off the Sea Wind on its first flight off water, soaking the RC gear.10/15/2011 - 10/16/2011 -- Deer Park, WA (AA) NWPRA FALL FOR FUN.
